Re: Battle beyond
Sat, March 6, 2004 - 9:34 PMHere's the story in its entirety..
Two horses joined in battle. The first on reared on his hind legs lashing out with hooves, intent on subduing his adversary or rendering him useless.
Suddenly rage turned to terror as a threat more deadly and violent then either combatant appeared behind the second stallion.
Both stallions viewed the new comer with eyes wide with terror. The stench of sweat filled with fear permeated the air. So immersed in their fear it was almost tangible.
The first stallion, furthest away from the new menace, hurled himself in the opposite direction leaving his adversary to defend himself. The stallion ran hard and fast for the shelter and safety beyond the reach of this vile threat.
The sky became a myriad of movement as several other horses joined him. They found safety in a small cluster of stars, just beyond the Milky Way. They watched as the scene before them unfolded.
The remaining stallion faced his adversary and was whirled about with the sweep of one massive paw. Shaking his head, he tried whirling around in order to face this enormous challenge. But the beast swung once more, his massive paw, raking the stallions flank. The minute particles of stardust which comprised the stallion was parted leaving blackness oozing downward. The stallion reared in agony. His anguish pierced the universe.
As the beast raised its paw to swing once more, the stallion maneuvered out of the way. The massive paw did not make contact a second time.
As the battle continued, and the stallion weakened, a new being entered the battle ground. Picking up the beast as if it were a toy, it flung it far away into the galaxy away from the injured, tired stallion. The new being towered over the stallion many times in height. It was well over four times the stallions height. The stallion simply lowered its head, too weary to continue the fight.
The dragon curled one its talons inward and crooking one finger, raised the stallions head. "I'll not harm you."
"What do you want of me." The stallion asked. Not necessarily relieved. Dragons never did anyone favors unless they wanted something of them.
"I want to know if you would be willing to transport a mortal between this realm and another?"
The stallion shook his head free of the dragons curled front foot. "You mean to say that you are asking me for my permission?"
"I am." The dragon sat down on its haunches, spreading its wings to shelter the weakened horse.
"And if I say no?"
"Then you go back with your herd to heal your wounds or I will have them healed if you would like."
"Just like that."
"Just like that." The dragon confirmed.
"So where is this mortal that I am being asked to transport and from where to where."
"When you wounds are healed I will take you to her. You can make your decision then."
"Very well." The stallion's breathing was labored. The poison from the beasts claws were infusing itself into his bloodstream.
"Come," said the dragon, "let me take you to someone who can help you."
The stallion did not argue only followed blindly focusing only on moving forward. His concentration was so focused that when the dragon finally stopped the stallion did not and ran into him. Pushing him. It took a moment before his brain made the actual connection that movement had ceased.
"What have we here?" A gentle voice came out from around the dragon. A man dressed in a white, floor length robe stood before the stallion assessing his wounds. He radiated with an ethereal white light.
"He fought with the Grishoff. I showed up before more damage was inflicted."
"You are very lucky indeed that Vishreen showed up when he did. Otherwise we would never have had the chance to get to know a gentle soul such as yourself."
The man touched the fevered, blazing wounds on the stallions flank. It felt cool, soothing. Like creek water in the spring. He continued brushing his hands lightly over the inflamed flank, cooling and soothing the open wounds. Slowly the bleeding subsided, and the swelling was reduced. The fever diminished and the stallion felt better. He was still exhausted. The man presented him with some water, "straight from the little dipper." He told the stallion with a smile.
The water seemed to aid in overcoming the exhaustion, helping too, to nurture his spirit, as well as the inside of his body. The stallion was amazed. He could actually "feel" himself healing. He could feel the blood stop oozing out the horrible wide gashes, feel the poison leaving his body, feel the swelling in his flank return to normal. He could actually feel the terrible gashes on his flesh close and his muscles rebuild themselves. He could feel the tissue returning to a healthy state as he was prior to the battle even with the other stallion. It was amazing. He felt the heavy burden of indebtedness.
That burden was lifted when the two legged looked into his eyes and with out words conveyed to him that there was no obligation for repayment. It was done simply because he needed it. No other reason. He was hurt and the man was a healer. It was that simple.
The stallion found that he enjoyed the company of these two. They were gentle and kind. Not a combination he had found in others. Even of his own kind. He vowed to find a way to help the man in any way he could.
"How do you feel?" The healer asked.
"I feel as I did before the battle with the gray."
"The gray? You mean the other stallion?"
"Yes, how did you know about that?"
"You will find that I know many things." The man reassessed the stallions wounds. "Now Tirion , you are free to go."
"How is it you know my name?"
"As I said, I know many things." The healer turned to go. As an after though, he turned back. "Vishreen will guide you back to your herd if you desire. You will be safe with him." With that, he turned and left. There was no building, only a "space" in the blackness of the universe set aside for him to work. It was comfortable. Like a stellar meadow.
Vishreen looked down at the stallion. "Would you like to see the woman or return to your herd?"
"I will see the mortal first."
"Then follow me." The dragon ambled on into a part of the universe Tirion had never been. "There," he pointed to the land mass below them on the small blue planet.
"I don't see anything."
The dragon waved his hand in front of the stallions eyes. "There, better?"
"Yes. What is it I am looking for?"
"A woman, looking up at us on the bench there. She is able to see us."
The stallion snorted. "Ha!" He exclaimed. "That’s a laugh! Human's see us."
Calmly the dragon replied as if to a very young one, "yes, this one has the "sight". It was given to her by the healer at a very young age. But he needs her now to continue her training. This is what I ask you. For you to aid as transport for the human to the healer."
The stallion looked upon the woman who looked up at him from her horizontal position on the picnic table. She watched as the dialog took place. She knew the healer beckoned her once more. But also knew the conflict the stallion was going through. She could hear them. This is something that even the great dragon did not know. She spoke not a word, but let the two speak as if in private and let the stallion, Tirion decide matters for himself.
"I will aid the healer as he aided me. Where do I pick her up and where do I take her?"
"As she is already receptive, you may meet her at any time. All you must do is be willing and the place will be there."
"Sounds easy."
"It is. The decision is entirely yours. No one will even know of your decision except for yourself."
The stallion stood looking at the woman trying to assess her nature. He was thinking about her and as she lay there, she left her physical body on the table, and went to him.
"It is in this manner that I will travel. I know you have thoughts concerning me, please feel free to look inside my heart and spirit."
'She is open. Willingly. I wonder if it’s a trap or if she is simply what she is.' Doubts clouded the stallions mind with the woman being this close. She stood very still, not wanting to startle him in any way. She opened her heart, her mind to his .
He moved his great head forward, she felt the hot breath from his nostrils on her chest. He blew billows of air as he inhaled her scent.
She could feel his mind as he probed her gently. She allowed him access to many different parts of her. Finally he was satisfied.
He nodded his head up and down a few times realigning his thoughts and making his decision. He looked deep into her eyes then nickered. "Would you like to ride on my back?"
"If this is what you are agreeable to. Yes."
"Where is it you would like to go?"
"I do not know this realm as you do, so anyplace you would like to take me."
She's good. The dragon thought to himself. They'll get along just fine. He mused for a moment… At least until he figures out who she is. He chuckled.
The woman mounted the stallion easily. He found she was light on his back and a proficient rider. For this, he was glad. He whirled and they were off. The dragon watched them go. "Don't forget the healer…" He called after them.
The stallion nodded his head in affirmation. "Would you like to see the healer?"
"I guess so. I don't know any healers here."
The stallion headed in the direction from which he just came. They arrived shortly.
She dismounted and stood beside the beautiful stallion.
The man in the ethereal white robe walked slowly toward the woman.
She stood. Shocked. He reached his hands out to her. She looked up at him not knowing what to do.
"My child." He spoke, his voice full of emotion.
"Father."
The stallion simply looked on in amazement. The dragon, watching from a distance, was amused.
If you have time...let me know your thoughts..
